All age restricted shows (16+, 18+, 21+, etc.) require a valid state or government issued photo I.D. or passport for admission. A valid state or government issued photo I.D. or passport stating that a patron is 21 years of age or older is always required for those patrons wishing to purchase and consume alcohol at the theater. The Varsity Theater has a Zero-Tolerance alcohol and substance policy. No other forms of I.D., even if it contains the patron’s birth date and photo, will be accepted at either the door or at the bar.

For certain shows, patrons under the listed age restriction may attend with a chaperone as long as the following rules and requirements are met: 1) The chaperone may bring up to two guests under the age range. 2) Each person in the party must have their own ticket. 3) The chaperone must stay with their under age guests for the entire time they are at the venue. 4) Most importantly, by Minnesota law the chaperone MUST be a parent or legal guardian; it can not be an older sibling or friend.

Unless otherwise noted, events at the Varsity Theater are general admission standing room. Some shows offer reserved and VIP experiences, but these are in limited ticket quantities. For shows that are listed as “General Admission Seating,” the audience will be fully seated, but the seats are not reserved and available on a first-come basis.

Advance Tickets for Varsity Theater events are available through this website or by heading directly to our venue page on TicketWeb; our official online ticketing vendor. If, for any reason, you are experiencing problems with purchasing your tickets online, please contact TicketWeb customer support at 1-866-468-3399. Please note that certain events may use a different online ticketing outlet than ours, but know that the links on this this are the official ticketing links for the event in question.

Additionally, general admission advance tickets for most Varsity Theater events are available for in-person purchase at The Loring Pasta Bar. General admission tickets for select shows are also available at The Electric Fetus in Minneapolis and at Down In The Valley in Golden Valley during their normal business hours. Please note that our outlets may not have the tickets you are looking for, so call ahead to check their ticket availability.

Advance and Day Of Show Tickets can also be purchased directly at the Varsity Theater Box Office, starting at 3pm on all scheduled show days, pending on ticket availability. The Varsity Theater Box Office accepts cash and credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, and American Express – No Discover).

Will-Call Tickets may be picked up at The Varsity starting at 3pm the day of the show. You must have your TicketWeb confirmation number or confirmation email, the credit card used to purchase the tickets, and a photo I.D. to claim your tickets. Print at home tickets through TicketWeb bypases this step.

Tickets are not replaceable and should be treated as cash. Refunds or reprints are not available.

Transferring a Will Call ticket to another name requires the ticket purchaser to appear in person at the box office (with photo I.D. and credit card used) prior to the event to make the change. The box office cannot accept phone calls, emails, or hand-written permissions from the purchaser, including forwarded order confirmation numbers or other copied personal information. THIS IS FOR THE PROTECTION OF OUR TICKET BUYERS. In some cases, you may contact TicketWeb directly to make a name change for a gift purchase.

Unless otherwise noted, all shows at the Varsity are General Admission and Standing Room Only. Occasionally some shows are listed at General Admission Seating; meaning that it is a fully seated show, but the seats are not reserved or assigned. Please check the specific event’s ticketing page for ticketing and seating details regarding each event.

Mezzanine Access tickets are available on certain shows listed on the ticketing page. These premium tickets are only available online and grant the patron access to both the Mezzanine level and the Main Floor. The Mezzanine is an extremely limited area featuring an aerial view of the stage, a private bar, and access to the only seats in the house for most concerts. Seating is limited to 50 stools that are not reserved or assigned and are available on a first come, first served basis. Mezzanine tickets are only available online on the Varsity’s website and on our venue page at TicketWeb.

Occasionally, certain shows will have VIP tickets that include additional perks for the patron (i.e. early entry, meet and greet with the artist, pre-show soundcheck, etc.). These VIP packages are only available online and can be found either on the Varsity Theater website, on our venue page at TicketWeb, or on the artist’s website. If VIP is offered, know that those tickets are in extremely limited quantities and usually include one General Admission ticket in addition to the perks of VIP.

The Varsity Theater is committed to creating enjoyable experiences for all ticket buyers at our historic, retro-fitted venue. We support the Americans with Disabilities Act and we are continually working to make our theater more accessible to customers with disabilities and mobility issues. Ramps and mechanical lifts have been added to ensure access to all levels of the venue. The Varsity Theater urges persons with accessibility requests to contact the theater in advance by calling 612.604.0222 so we may assist in making the best possible experience for everyone at our shows. Please inform venue management or security when you arrive to receive assistance. We will make every reasonable effort to accommodate special requests for persons with bona fide disabilities who contact us in advance.

Line-up for entry on show days begins outside the theater no earlier than 1 hour prior to door time listed on the ticket (i.e. for a show with 7pm doors, line-up for entry begins at 6pm, and so forth). Occasionally, VIP Tickets will list an earlier door time, but again, line up for that begins 1 hour prior to the listed entry time.

Out of respect for our neighboring businesses, patrons are not permitted to line up for events earlier than 1 hour before doors open. We will turn away any and all patrons that line-up outside of the venue before the appointed time of 1 hour before doors.
